After years of people pleasing and being overly forgiving and biting my tongue I decided enough was enough. I was over being considered the "angry black woman" in the office or considered aggressive when I spoke up for myself. So I begin telling people in various versions "You got me fucked up".
Whether it was in the office, "per my last email", in friendships "That makes me uncomfortable so I'm leaving now", or in relationships "If you decide to raise your voice then I won't continue this conversation". The point was, I needed boundaries and began enforcing them.
My stress levels subsided, second undeserving chances were no longer given, and I no longer stuffed myself in a box to make others comfortable.
